I feel that the flood of visual messages we consume on a daily basis is harmful yet powerful. These advertisements and subliminal messages contribute to how the world works and our perception of it. According to the article, "For the majority of people, however, being constantly bombarded by images does not necessarily lead to a conscious recognition of this phenomenon." To be honest, this phenomenon isn't easy to recognize unless I am in New York City, looking at the screens and advertisements everywhere I turn. Even in a room without phones or computers, I still see symbols and messages everywhere, whether it's a t-shirt logo or a baseball team hat. One phrase that stands out to me from the article was an "image rich world." It is weird to imagine a world in which clothes were plain, brands did not have logos, and advertisements did not exist. I think social interaction would prevail in this scenario. The concept of the Bain d' Images Era made me think about the Zines we are making in class, the effort put into each image, and the purpose the creator had in mind. There are so many visual messages that are being thrown around for no reason at all; everyone feels a need to brand themselves in this generation. One point that the author made that left me thinking was the fact that there are so many visual messages we consume daily, which may prevent us from recognizing the danger in the sense that our critical thinking and viewing skills to survive may be absent.
